Ways To Give to Reach Out and Read
At Reach Out and Read, we believe all families should have the tools and information to help their children learn to read and form a love of books. Many of the families that Reach Out and Read serves do not have any books at home. You can help us change that! Your gift will help us meet the early relational health and literacy needs of children and families, where they are, in primary care medical offices and help to provide children and families with books. It is important to us that our books reflect the widest possible representation of the children and families we serve, with stories that are relevant and engaging, accurately reflect and affirm a diverse range of identities, cultures, and histories, and contain illustrations that are colorful and recognizable to young children.
Below are some ways to help.
Donate much needed funds
Reach Out and Read Greater Philadelphia has expanded to become Reach Out and Read Pennsylvania, a new statewide Reach Out and Read Affiliate. We are no longer using the Reach Out and Read Greater Philadelphia name and this website (www.reachoutandreadphilly.org) and email (info@reachoutandreadphilly.org) will soon close and change.
When you donate funds to Reach Out and Read Pennsylvania, the 280 Reach Out and Read sites in the state of PA can purchase the ideal books that are needed for their families and at a significant discount, so your monetary contribution provides many more books.

Host a virtual book drive
We hope you will consider having a virtual book drive so the primary care doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants can give the new books and information about reading aloud to their patient families during the newborn through 5 year old well visits. Donate gently used children’s books
Most Reach Out and Read sites in the state of Pennsylvania need and accept donations of some gently used children’s books for ages newborn through 10 years old. Please call 240-391-9338 to leave a voice mail message and to inquire about next steps (book guidelines and delivery).
Below is the list of types of books the Reach Out and Read sites cannot accept:
- Books marked with Library name
- Textbooks/Encyclopedias
- Young adult/adult books
- Holiday theme
- Used sticker books
- Religious theme
- Used coloring/activity books
- Cloth/Touch & Feel
- Violent/weapon theme
- Books with toys/items attached
- Magazines
- Books with batteries
Volunteer as a reader
