Our adult volunteer readers transform waiting rooms into literacy-rich areas for children and parents, helping families to learn the joys - and techniques - of reading aloud.

Reach Out and Read Greater Philadelphia volunteers come from all walks of life but have two important traits in common: a love of books and stories, and a genuine interest in helping children.

What You Can Do

Volunteers (over 18 y.o.) read to children, model book-sharing techniques and show by example that reading aloud is fun for parent and child.

Check out the Reach Out and Read National Center Site list to find a Reach Out and Read clinic in your area and look for the “helping hand” symbol to contact a Reach Out and Read Site Coordinator directly. Most Reach Out and Read Greater Philadelphia Sites have their own application, interview, onboarding and orientation requirements for volunteering.
