Our volunteer readers transform waiting rooms into literacy-rich areas for children and parents, helping families to learn the joys and the techniques of reading aloud.

Reach Out and Read Greater Philadelphia volunteers come from all walks of life but have two important traits in common: a love of books and stories, and a genuine interest in helping children.

What You Can Do

Volunteers read to children, model book-sharing techniques and show by example that reading aloud is fun for parent and child.

Check out the Reach Out and Read National Center Site list to find a Reach Out and Read clinic in your area and look for the “helping hand” symbol to contact a Reach Out and Read Site Coordinator directly. Most Reach Out and Read Greater Philadelphia Sites have their own volunteer orientation and requirements for volunteering.
