Reach Out and Read Greater Philadelphia Programs always need brand-new books for children 6 months through 5 years old, and their greatest need is new board books appropriate for infants and toddlers. Every year Reach Out and Read Greater Philadelphia pediatricians, family physicians, nurse pracititioners, and physician assistants give more than 78,000 brand-new books to children 6 months through 5 years old at every well visit. Here’s how you can help:
Hold a Book Drive
This is a great way for individuals, groups and children to help others, and book drives are fun to do! The new books you collect will be given to children ages 6 months through 5 years when they come for their checkups. Please note, Reach Out and Read Greater Philadelphia has no pick-up service and is unable to pay for mailing/shipping and handling costs for donated books.
Fundraisers
Reach Out and Read Site Coordinators can purchase new books at a 40 to 60 percent discount, so we can make your dollars go far! By hosting a house party for Reach Out and Read Greater Philadelphia you can highlight the importance of early literacy in the comfortable setting of your home.
Recycle, Reuse and Re-Read!
Every year Reach Out and Read Greater Philadelphia needs at least 70,000 donated gently-used books for children of all ages. These gently-used books are put in the waiting rooms at most Reach Out and Read Sites so all children can look at a book and take one home. Gently-used books need to be in good condition (covers and pages intact, clean, and readable). Out of respect for families, Reach Out and Read Greater Philadelphia Programs cannot accept books with sensitive topics and illustrations (such as abuse, death, divorce, holidays, religion, weapons and violence).
