Reach Out and Read Program

at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children

3rd Annual Basketball Tournament at Germantown Friends School (GFS)

October 29th, 2016. On a beautiful October day over 100 people gathered at GFS for an exciting event. There were players, referees, score keepers, volunteers and spectators. Twelve teams, including teams from St. Chris and Drexel University College of Medicine, participated in the 3rd Annual Basketball Tournament to benefit the Reach Out and Read program at St. Chris. Most players hailed from Philly, but many drove from as far away as Syracuse and Northern Virginia. The teams played 5 on 5 games in a round-robin format and vied for a shot in the semi-finals and the bragging rights that come along with the championship. The semifinals and finals were highly competitive and spirited. In the championship game Team Cohen won a close game with a late steal to seal the win over Team Elvera.

This year the tournament was biggest, yet. There were 12 teams and over 15 sponsors that included: The Goldenberg Group, Toll Brothers, Corderman and Company, Trolley Car Diner, Dekes BBQ, the Goat Hollow, Fox Rothschild LLP, 3 Springs Water, Scrips America, Rodman Properties, Caldwell Banker Welker Real Estate, and Yards Brewing Company. This helped us raise $30,000 so far to support the Reach Out and Read program at St. Chris, but you can still help.
